Services—Force.com Sites
Force.com Sites, annouced at Dreamforce '08 in November, allows companies to build public websites and web applications that run natively on the Force.com platform. Although the technology is still in Developer Preview, Appirio has worked with innovative companies like Dell, Harrah's, Cathedral Partners, and ThomasNet to demonstrate its potential.
eWeek asked Appirio's Narinder Singh to summarize why Sites is important. Here's how we replied: "Force.com Sites changes the entire paradigm for building applications. Companies no longer have to consider separate architectures and approaches depending on where the users are. Running web sites in Salesforce.com's cloud removes cost and complexity and allows companies to extend existing applications beyond their own four walls."
